Randy Rides for DP Saddlery!

Hybrid

Appreciation:

I want to give a big thank you to Barbara Caiado of DP Saddlery for inviting me to be apart of the riding team of DP Saddlery USA. About a year ago we met for the first time. We talked about the rider-position when riding in western saddles. For years I have received low marks on Dressage tests due to how a western saddle enables the rider to sit in a chair-like position. Barbara asked me, “if you had a magic wand, how would you design the perfect western saddle built for Western Dressage and Working Equitation?” Needless to say, that was the beginning of a wonderful partnership that sought to solve the rider-position issues. However, I had many other saddle issues I wanted solved as well.

Why did I chose Dp Saddlery?

1) On a daily basis, I ride a wide range of breeds (Quarter Horses, Arabians, PREs, Warmbloods, and Lusitanos). I also ride three different disciplines (Dressage, Western Dressage, and Working Equation). It is extremely difficult to find one saddle that will serve my needs. DP offers an adjustable saddle that will fit all the different breeds I ride. With a few turns of the adjustment wrench, I can change the angle of the saddle and redistribute the weight as needed. This eliminates the need to have individual dressage saddles for each horse in the barn.

2) Weight on the back of my horse has always been a concern of mine. For years I have been riding in a Crates saddle that weighs approximately 45 lbs on a good day. The DP saddles that I am currently using weighs between 17-22 lbs. I am sure my Quarter Horse, Carbon, appreciates the lighter weight saddles.

3) Carbon has a long soft back. Western saddles have been ideal for him because the weight is distributed over a larger surface area, keeping him from getting sore. Some dressage saddles will create pressure on his loin area and cause him to hollow his back. This year I will be riding Carbon to earn a silver medal, so it is important to find the right Dressage saddle that will give him the comfort that he deserves. DP Saddles has solved this issue by using a flocking material that is soft, yet gives the needed support. The bars of the saddle seem to float like air on his back nicely and evenly.

4) Because I also ride Working Equitation, I needed a good working saddle that enables my body in the correct position while giving the horse the needed support to maneuver through the obstacle course. The El Campo saddle is that WE saddle. This saddle and the other saddles I am using exceed my expectations.
